The Music Review: My top 5 2016 Eurovision Song Contest Entries

Most of my favorite songs from 2016 Eurovision Song Contest are sung by females.

1. 1944 by Jamala (Ukraine)
After listening to this song for the first time, this makes me wanna repeat and repeat it again due to it's unusual musical structure. This song speaks about the experience of the Crimean people during the deportation done by the infamous dictator Joseph Stalin where Jamala's grandparents where involved (according to her) in that year (the song's title itself). Personally, this also applies to the world war 2 in which was happened the same year where there is full catastrophe happened especially killing innocent people. The adlib part represents praying in my perspectives.

2. Walk on Water by Ira Losco (Malta)
This song reminds me of Nicole Scherzinger's (probably her voice almost sounds like her). I love how the tempo blends with her freely measured voice from the start then goes to a "common time" beat until the end. I pointed out a very "American" type part where the choirs joined her in the bridge part until she climax to the headtone of B flat 5. However, this considers the most expressive if not the most powerful song in my opinion. Musically speaking, it's more of dynamic markings that counts. Let's learn the Maltese way of expressive singing from this genius!

3. LoveWave by Iveta Mukuchyan (Armenia)
Who says Armenians cannot give a pop flavor on their entries? This song proves to be the very best for Armenia. Iveta herself is vocally challenged when she sings this top and hard song. The music structure is more of heart pounding especially the interlude is made of a sound of the echoing voices and heart beat until the drums' cue. The lyrical structure in the chorus section is more of a "crazy get over" type of thing.

4. Miracle by Samra (Azerbaijan)
I have nothing more to say but "listen to the whole song" to understand. When you're heartbroken, then this is your go to song!
5. If Love Was A Crime by Poli Genova (Bulgaria)
After listening this to the radio, this makes me want to include it on my top 5 for it's musical reasons. Catchy and Straight from the heart!
